VW is close to introducing its new three-row full size SUV and it’s giving the world a preview of the new SUV with the T-Prime Concept GTE that is debuting this week at the Beijing Motor Show.

The T-Prime Concept GTE is based on VW’s modular longitudinal platform (MLB) and measures 199.6 inches long, which is 6.7 inches longer than the midsize Touareg. Since the concept is a plug-in hybrid, the front gets a pair of C_shaped LED daytime running lights, which are characteristic of all VW’s latest plug-in concepts. Overall the styling is similar to the new Tiguan and the Phideon concept that debuted in Geneva.

The T-Prime Concept GTE is powered by a 375 horsepower plug-in hybrid system that incorporates an electric motor, a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The electric motor generates 134 hp and a maximum torque of 258 lb-ft, while the TSI generates 248 hp and 273 lb-ft. The concept can travel up to 31 miles in EV mode and when the battery’s power has been depleted, the hybrid powertrain is rated at 29 mpg combined on the European cycle. The T-Prime Concept GTE will also reach 60 mph in 6.0 seconds and has a top speed of 139 mph.

The T-Prime Concept GTE can be recharged in as little as two hours and 30 minutes when it’s plugged into a public charging station with a power of 7.2 kW, but it will take up to eight hours on a regular 220-volt outlet.
