Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the autonomous F 015 Luxury in Motion concept at CES. Mercedes-Benz has been working on autonomous vehicles for years and following the S 500 Intelligent Drive and Future Truck 2025 autonomous vehicles, the automaker has unveiled what it calls a “self-driving luxury sedan.”
With the arrival of autonomous vehicles, the styling of the automobile will take a completely different shape. Mercedes-Benz is giving the world a view of what it predicts vehicles will look like after 2030 with the egg-shaped F 015 Luxury in Motion concept.
“Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society. The car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a mobile living space,” explains Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The concept has very short overhangs with a long wheelbase that provides a spacious lounge-like cabin. The interior features four rotating lounge chairs that allows for face-to-face seating. Once the doors are opened the electrically-powered seats automatically swing outwards 30 degrees. The interior is chock full of technology with six individual displays that connect the passengers to the car. The passengers can interact with the screens via touch, gesture and eye tracking functions.
The F 015 Luxury in Motion concept is powered by a hydrogen fuel-cell powertrain.
