Buick has unveiled the Velite plug-in hybrid concept at the Auto Guangzhou 2016 in China. The Velite concepts a preview of future new energy vehicles under the brand’s Buick Blue strategy.

Buick has unveiled the Velite plug-in hybrid concept at the Auto Guangzhou 2016 in China. The Velite concepts a preview of future new energy vehicles under the brand’s Buick Blue strategy.
Designed by GMs Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center Shanghai-based team, the team drew inspiration from water and traditional Chinese culture to design the Velite, which is described as efficient, intelligent and green. On the outside, the Velite features a crossover body with flowing lines and rippling, sculpted curves to reflect Buick’s all-new design language. Inside the interior is made of recycled materials and features a panoramic sunroof and induction ambient lighting.

Buick hasn’t revealed all the details about the plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it uses GM’s new-generation modular intelligent electric drive system and a high-performance modular lithium-ion battery pack. The technology will be used in Buick’s upcoming PHEV.

The Velite Concept also debuts a new 360-degree intelligent traffic induction system supported by sensors on the car body, which enables multiple functions such as hazard warning, lane and safety distance keep assist, high-speed adaptive cruise control, low-speed automatic driving and night vision.
