PepsiCo orders 100 Tesla Semi trucks

PepsiCo has placed the largest preorder yet for the electric Tesla Semi truck. A PepsiCo executive has revealed that the snack and beverage maker has reserved 100 Tesla Semi trucks as the company seeks to reduce its fuel costs and emissions.

PepsiCo now follows other companies like Walmart, J.B.Hunt and Anheuser-Busch who have placed orders for the Tesla Semi. PepsiCo will use the Tesla Semi trucks to deliver shipments of snacks and beverages between manufacturing and distribution facilities and retailers within a 500-mile range.

Mike O’Connell, the senior director of North American supply chain for PepsiCo subsidiary Frito-Lay revealed that the trucks are key to PepsiCo’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its fleet of trucks by 20 percent by 2030.

According to Reuters, Tesla has now received at least 267 orders for the Tesla Semi, which is slated to enter production in 2019.
