Subaru has announced that it will invest $140 million in its Lafayette, Indiana plant to produce the 2019 Subaru Ascent crossover. The investment will add 200 jobs to produce the three-row crossover.
The large investment in its current plant will be used to expand the factory, add new equipment and revise its workstations. Production of the Ascent will begin in May 2018 and the Lafayette plant will be the sole production site for the large crossover.
Subaru unveiled the 2019 Ascent this week at the LA Auto Show and Subaru expects to sell around 60,000 to 70,000 units a year. Sales could even go as high as 80,000 units if the plant can produce that many Ascent crossovers.
The 2019 Ascent is Subaru’s largest model year and has room for up to eight passengers. Under the hood the Ascent is also powered by a new turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder boxer engine with 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft. of torque.
