Mercedes-Benz has announced pricing for the 2017 smart fortwo electric drive coupe and cabrio. Both models will arrive this summer with the smart electric drive coupe starting at $24,550 and the electric drive cabrio at $28,750, before any federal and state incentives are applied.
The 2017 smart fortwo electric drive cabrio will also be the only electric convertible on the market.
The good news is the new fortwo electric drive is $1,200 cheaper than the outgoing model. The 2017 smart fortwo electric drive has a more powerful electric motor, a higher top speed, a slightly longer driving range and a faster AC charging time with a higher power onboard charger.
The smart fortwo electric drive is powered by an 80 horsepower electric motor that has 6 more horsepower than the outgoing model and 118 lb-ft. of torque. Most importantly the 2017 model now has a driving range between 70-80 miles compared to the outgoing model that only had a 68 mile range. Lastly charging times have been cut down significantly with it only taking 3 hours to fully charge it on a 240 volt charger, compared to 6 hours before.
Offered in pure, passion and prime trims the fortwo electric drive features new value-added packages and options, including an exclusive Electric Green tridion cell color and optionally available Climate Package, which includes heated seats, a heated steering wheel and provides additional insulation for climate control, comfort and efficiency.
