Today most buyers probably don’t think of Porsche when their thinking about an electric car, unless you’re thinking about the insanely expensive and unattainable 918 Spyder. But this could change by 2023, since Porsche CEO Oliver Blume expects half of Porsche’s production to be electrified models by 2023.

The Porsche Mission E is expected to arrive in 2019

The first of these new electrified models will be the production version of the Porsche Mission E concept, which is expected to arrive in 2019 as a 2020 model. Porsche expects to sell around 20,000 units a year of the Mission E. Porsche’s second electric model will be based on the Macan, which will help Porsche build around 60,000 electric models at its Zuffenhausen plant.

If the Porsche Mission E arrives with a driving range around 300 miles and a 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds, the Mission E could be an easy sell. Porsche also says that the Mission E will be equipped with an 800-volt charging system that can charge it up to 80% in about 15 minutes.

The arrival of more Porsche electrified models is good news for green car fans, since Porsche won’t be selling in diesel-powered vehicles in the United States anymore.
