Nissan GT-R50 celebrates the 50th anniversary of the GT-R

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Nissan GT-R and Italdesign, Nissan and the Italian design house have teamed up to create a one-off GT-R called the GT-R50. The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is based on the 2018 Nissan GT-R Nismo, but with a style all its own.

To create the Nissan GT-R50, Italdesign developed, engineered and built the car, while the exterior and interior design changes were done at Nissan Design Europe in London and Nissan Design America.

At the front the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign features a distinct golden inner element that stretches across the width of the unique GT-R. The hood also has a more pronounced power bulge, and the thin LED headlights stretch from the wheel arch to the lip above the outer cooling intakes. At the side, the roofline has been lowered by 54 millimeters and features a lower center section with slightly raised outer portions. The GT-R “samurai blade” cooling outlets behind the front wheels get a new a gold inlay.

At the rear, the shoulder line tapers around the base of the rear window and draws toward the center of the trunk lid. To give it a more dramatic look, the rear window line descends longer and deeper and there are more gold elements to help it stand out. The GT-R’s twin round taillights take a “floating” design theme and there’s an adjustable rear wing.

Lastly the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign rides on unique 21-inch wheels and the exterior finished in Liquid Kinetic Gray paint with distinctive Energetic Sigma Gold anniversary accents.

Inside carbon fiber finishes are used across the center console, instrument panel and door linings, along with black Alcantara and fine black Italian leather on the seats.

Underneath the hood, there’s a special version of the 3.8-liter V6 VR38DETT engine, which has been massaged to produce 710 horsepower and 575 lb-ft. of torque. That’s a nice increase from the GT-R Nismo’s 600 hp and 481 lb-ft. Some of the engine upgrades include, GT3 competition-spec turbochargers, larger intercoolers, revised camshaft profiles, higher-flow fuel injectors, and optimized ignition, intake and exhaust systems. A reinforced dual-clutch sequential six-speed rear transaxle and stronger differentials and drive shafts direct the power to the wheels.

Before you get your hopes up, Nissan is quick to point out that the GT-R50 by Italdesign is not a preview of the next-generation GT-R. The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign will have its official debut next month.
