The new Altima is slated to get a new CVT that will improve its fuel efficiency by 10 percent over the current transmission. is also planning to introduce its first in-house hybrid drivetrain for front-wheel-drive cars in the Altima. The current Altima hybrid uses a Toyota-based system, but the next-gen Altima will get a hybrid system based on the hybrid powertrain in the rear-wheel-drive Infiniti M hybrid. The Altima hybrid will use a two-clutch, one-motor system mated to a supercharged 4-cyl engine.
The future of the Altima hybrid was in question when Nissan recently announced plans to stop selling the current Altima hybrid at the end of this year. The next Altima hybrid is due in 2013.
