Fiat has temporarily stopped production of the Fiat 500L at its plant in Serbia, since sales have failed to meet expectations. Production of the Fiat 500L kicked off in July 2012 and since sales are a problem, production is expected to be halted for at least a few days.
Fiat hasn’t stated how long production will be halted or exactly why, other than stating, “The causes of this temporary setback are external and related to situation in the European and global automotive markets.”

So far this year Fiat has sold 8,262 500Ls in the U.S., which is actually up from last year. Either way sales of the 500L are a small portion of Fiat’s sales, since last year Fiat moved over 35k 500s. Hopefully the upcoming Fiat 500X crossover will do better.
