2016 Mazda CX-3 Goes Head to Head with the Honda HR-V Next Year

Mazda has unveiled the 2016 CX-3 compact crossover, which will arrive in the U.S. by next summer.

The compact crossover segment is growing at an insanely rapid pace with a bunch of new models like the Honda HR-V, Chevy Trax and Jeep Renegade being released this year. Mazda is also throwing its hat in the ring with the 2016 CX-3 that is debuting this week at the LA Auto Show.

The 2016 CX-3 is smaller than the current CX-5 and CX-9 crossovers, but borrows many styling cues from its bigger brothers. The CX-3 may look ready to take on the unpaved road, but underneath the skin you’ll find the same platform as the small Mazda2.

In the U.S. the CX-3 will be powered by a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that will be mated to a standard automatic transmission. Other markets will be able to choose a 1.5L diesel engine that can be mated to either a manual or automatic transmission. Mazda has yet to release the official specs.

The CX-3 is expected to arrive in the U.S. by next summer.
