2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport Replaces the LR2

Land Rover has confirmed that the replacement for the Land Rover LR2/ Freelander is going to be part of the new Discovery family and that it will officially be named the Discovery Sport.

Today Land Rover officially unveiled the Discovery Vision concept in New York, which is a preview of its new Discovery family of SUVs. It’s also been confirmed that the replacement for the Land Rover LR2/ Freelander is going to be part of the new Discovery family and that it will officially be named the Discovery Sport.

The Discovery Sport will share its platform with the Range Rover Evoque and could be offered in two versions, a five seater and a longer seven passenger version. The base model is expected to be powered by a new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder from Jaguar Land Rover’s Ingenium engine family, while a larger 3.0L supercharged V6 may also be offered.

The Discover Sport will be the first of the new Discovery family, with a replacement for the LR4 expected in addition to a third model.
