Smart has published a teaser video that previews the next-generation Smart ForTwo and ForFour. Both models will go on sale in Europe later this year before the ForTwo arrives in the U.S. as a 2015 model.
The third-generation ForTwo now rides on a new modular platform that was developed with Renault-Nissan, which can accommodate various engines, track widths and wheelbases. The next ForTwo is going to be about four inches wider, but the length will not change much.
The ForTwo will be powered by a new 70 horsepower direct-injected three-cylinder engine that’s mated to a six-speed manual transmission, while a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic will be available. Thankfully the current semi-automatic is going away.
