Mercedes-Benz cancels the B-Class Electric Drive

Mercedes-Benz is going to stop making the B-Class Electric Drive after the 2017 model year, as it focuses more energy on the upcoming EQ electric lineup. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that production will halt on the slow selling B-Class in the third quarter of this year and that there are no plans for a replacement.

Sales of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive never took off, with Mercedes-Benz only selling 3,651 units since it was introduced in 2013. Initially it was only offered in select zero emission states, but even when availability was opened up to non-ZEV states, sales still didn’t improve.

With the demise of the B-Class Electric Drive, parent company Daimler is working on more than 10 new electric cars that will be introduced by 2022, many of which will be offered under the EQ sub-brand.
