As expected, Mercedes-AMG is going to build a production version of the Mercedes-AMG GT concept that debuted in March at the Geneva Motor Show. The Mercedes-AMG GT concept takes everything we love about the GT Coupe, but adds to more doors to turn it into one of the sexiest four-door coupes we’ve seen yet.
Mercedes-AMG chairman Tobias Moers recently revealed to Automotive News that the production version will debut sometime in 2018. Moers also confirmed that the GT four-door will also eventually be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which is just the beginning, since the plug-ins will be offered on several AMG models.
“Yeah, why not? Because we are not able to change the future,” Moers stated about the future plug-in hybrid models. “We have to adapt to these new requirements and regulations, and we have to move forward and find new innovative solutions.”
The brand isn’t going to stop with plug-in hybrids, since Moers also sees a fully electric Mercedes-AMG at some point as well.
“I would be wrong to tell you no,” Moers said. “I don’t know when down the road. But we are not changing the future. It is going to happen.”
