Mazda has unveiled its new Kai concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, which is likely a preview of what we can expect from the next-generation Mazda3. With its muscular, sculpted lines, the Mazda Kai concept is a new take on Mazda’s current Kodo design language.

Mazda hasn’t provided too many details about the Mazda Kai concept, but it will be based on the new Skyactiv-vehicle architecture and powered by the next-generation Skyactiv-X engine, which will be the first compression-ignition engine available. The Skyactiv-X engine will not only be between 20-30 percent more efficient than Mazda’s current engines, but also have up to 30 percent more torque.

The interior of the Kai concept features a minimalistic design with the biggest detail being the gauges in front of the driver. The infotainment system has been designed into the dashboard for a much sleeker design than the infotainment system in the current Mazda3.

While the Kai is simply a concept, we’ll have to wait and see how much of the design translates into the next-generation Mazda3.
