This week Lincoln revealed the replacement for the MKC crossover, the 2020 Corsair. Now we’re waiting to see what Lincoln could have planned for the MKZ, the last model in its lineup to still have the old naming structure.

2019 Lincoln MKZ

There’s a chance that the MKZ could be replaced by the Zephyr. You might recall the the last time that Lincoln used the Zephyr name was in the mid-2000s, which was then replaced by the MKZ. Now it looks like Lincoln may revive the Zephyr name, since it trademarked it back in 2016.

According to , the Zephyr could be coming back and we may even get a preview as a concept sometime next year. If the Zephyr does end up replacing the MKZ in 2021, it might also switch to Ford’s new CD6 platform, which would mean that the Zephyr would be offered with rear- or all-wheel drive.

The CD6 platform is already used by the new Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator and it’s being reported that the next-generation Mustang will also switch to the new platform.

For now we’ll have to wait and see if the Lincoln Zephyr does make a comeback.
