Last month it was reported that both the Lexus IS and GS might disappear, since Lexus had yet to decide the fate of either sedan. While we still don’t know about the GS, a new report claims that a new IS is in the works and that it will debut in 2020.
The report comes from Japan’s Mag-X magazine and Lexus Enthusiast that claims that not only is a new IS being developed, but that it will grow in size with dimensions that are closer to the GS. If the report is true, Lexus might have decided to combine the IS and GS into one sedan, with the GS name being discontinued. According to sources the next-generation Lexus IS will have a longer wheelbase than the current GS, but with shorter overhangs.
The report also speculates that the next-generation IS will share its platform with the LS and LC. Under the hood the next IS could get a 2.4L turbocharged four-cylinder engine the brand’s 2.5L hybrid powertrain. A separate report also claims that the next IS will reintroduce the IS F and that it could be powered by a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 that will be shared with the upcoming LC F.
