Kia is going to introduce a new smaller crossover later this year and now we have our first teaser. The new B-segment crossover will be called the Kia Stonic and Kia has released the first sketches of the new crossover, which will arrive later this year.
The Kia Stonic will be based on the Kia Rio
According to Kia, the name ‘Stonic’ is derived from combining ‘Speedy’ and ‘Tonic’ together and refers to he first and last note in the musical scale. “Stonic suggests that the vehicle is agile and offers something fresh and new in the compact SUV segment.”
The sketches preview a sportier new entry in the compact crossover segment, which is currently dominated by models, like the Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-3 and the new Toyota C-HR. Under the skin, the Stonic will likely share most of its DNA with the Rio.
Kia hasn’t announced when the Stonic will debut, but does state that it will go on sale in the second half of 2017.
