Chevrolet Blazer is coming back next year with GMC Acadia parts

2017 GMC Acadia

Ford is bringing back the Bronco and now Chevy is reportedly getting ready to dust off the old Blazer name for a new SUV next year. A heavily camouflaged prototype has been caught doing the rounds and it’s reported that under all the covers, there’s a new Chevy Blazer that’s ready to take on the Ford Edge.

The resurrected Blazer won’t be a body-on-frame rugged SUV. Instead it will be based on the GMC Acadia’s crossover platform with a footprint that will place it in between the Chevy Equinox and Traverse in Chevy’s crossover lineup. Chevy actually made the new Equinox smaller and the second-generation Traverse larger to make room for the new Blazer. The Blazer will come standard with seating for five, but there’s a possibility that it could have a small third row seat.

Little is known about the new Blazer, but it will rival the Ford Edge and Nissan Murano. Honda is also reportedly working on a new five-passenger crossover, which would also compete with the Blazer. The two Blazer prototypes that spy photographers recently caught, were reportedly powered by GM’s 2.5L four-cylinder and a 3.6L V6 engine.

The new Blazer is expected to arrive next year as a 2019 model.
