Fiat has announced that it will reveal the new Abarth 124 GT next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The special edition 124 was developed by the Abarth Racing Team, with one of its highlights being its lightweight, carbon fiber top. Fiat is also going to reveal the Abarth 695 Rivale that it created with yacht maker, Riva.
The new removable carbon fiber top effectively turns the 124 Spider into a coupe. Fiat says that the top only weighs 35 pounds and can be removed a few simple steps. The hard top is also lined on the inside and has a large rear window and defroster to clear it in less than three minutes. The Abarth 124 GT is painted in Alpi Orientali Grey, while the mirror caps and front spoiler are painted in a special gun metal color.
The Abarth 124 GT is powered by a 1.4 liter MultiAir turbo engine that generates 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. of torque. Buyers can choose either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. The Abarth 124 GT has a top speed of 144 mph and reaches 62 mph in 6.8 seconds.
The special edition Abarth 695 Rivale is available either as a hatchback or convertible. It features a two-tone Riva Blue and Grey paint scheme and aquamarine stripes along the sides. The satin chrome finish on the door handles and tailgate evoke the style of the new Riva yachts.
The 695 Rivale is powered by a 1.4 liter turbocharged engine that generates 180 horsepower and 184 lb-ft. It has a top speed of 140 mph and only needs 6.7 seconds to reach 62 mph.
